Dissect the word with me for a moment:
Lipo — OK, that sounds like weight loss surgery.
Hyper — Yes, we often are. How else could we juggle work, kids, exercise, myriad lab tests and doctor’s appointments, non-stop carb-counting and dosing adjustments, etc., etc. and still do our taxes?

In the world of diabetes devices, company execs, PR pros, sales reps and even doctors are often vague about when new products will hit the market and be available for us people with diabetes. They tout new tools “coming soon” without any specificity as to when a product might actually be available. And on message boards frequented by patients, rumors can fly.

Well, here we are — World Diabetes Day 2012!
Today, we mark the anniversary of the day the co-creator of insulin, Dr. Frederick Banting, was born back in 1891. While World Diabetes Day has been around for more than two decades, founded by the International Diabetes Federation, it really started getting noticed in 2007, when the United Nations issued a resolution and made it an official day of observance.

Those of us in the U.S. sometimes feel as though our Diabetes Community friends across the pond get all the coolest gadgets and medications before we do Stateside.
