I’ve been to a bunch of “Health 2.0″ events in which the question inevitably came up: does all this online stuff really have the potential to improve people’s health? Well yes, was my response, because we don’t just use to it chat, but also to motivate each other and even create campaigns and contests for tangible changes like weight loss, fitness, and lowering your A1c.

I can’t quite remember who asked me, but in front of San Francisco City Hall last Friday evening, during our World Diabetes Day celebrations, somebody pointed to my pin and asked, “Why the blue circle, anyway? What does that mean?”
They also wanted to know why the logo didn’t have the world “diabetes” stamped across it: “Who’s going to recognize that this stands for diabetes?!”

The Jonas Brothers played San Francisco this week. We did not attend (tickets started at $92). But my three daughters have chatted up everyone at their school, everyone at summer camp, and everyone under age 14 within a 10-mile radius, I believe: they just cannot get over the fact that I actually interviewed Nick Jonas back in Spring of 2007.
