When exactly the Animas Vibe integrated insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) hits the U.S. market is now up to the FDA.
Almost two years after the Animas Vibe hit the market in Europe, this Monday Johnson & Johnson submitted the pump to the U.S. regulatory agency. The company publicly announced the submission during their first quarter earnings call early this morning.

An FDA approval of a new diabetes device is always an exciting thing, especially for a company that’s been in the holding pen for a while, waiting to get a device to market. That was the case this summer when Roche learned it had finally secured the regulatory agency’s OK for its Accu-Chek-Combo system.

If I were the parent of a child with diabetes, my opinions about the new-to-the-market and highly praised Medtronic MySentry CGM monitoring device might be different.
But I’m not a CWD parent. No, I’m an adult living with type 1 diabetes.
And from that perspective, despite all the benefits of this device I see, it’s just not for me. I see more cons and downsides to it than benefits and that’s why I can’t say…

Right after the first of this year, Medtronic Diabetes announced FDA approval of mySentry, a remote monitoring and alarm system for their Revel CGM-enabled (continuous glucose monitoring) insulin pump.
