Many in the Diabetes Community are anxiously awaiting the release of the smaller and sleeker 2nd generation OmniPod, but already we know what a third generation won’t have:
A Pod that’s integrated with a Dexcom CGM sensor.
Yep, it’s true: the two companies say they have abandoned the integration deal they had in place since 2008.

In the world of diabetes devices, company execs, PR pros, sales reps and even doctors are often vague about when new products will hit the market and be available for us people with diabetes. They tout new tools “coming soon” without any specificity as to when a product might actually be available. And on message boards frequented by patients, rumors can fly.

Well, we all made through another year!
Surprised we got through this one? Especially with that purported Mayan prediction about the world ending on Dec. 21, 2012? Well, we’re still here! Predictions of doom were apparently exaggerated… Perhaps the premonitions were of something “magical” that was supposed to happen, so we were crossing our fingers for a cure being discovered or the FDA approving the best-ever fantasy diabetes device… or somesuch.

There has been a lot of confusion this past week about what the heck is going on with the next-generation, not-yet-to-market Medtronic Enlite CGM sensors. And it’s perfectly understandable — it was confusing!
But guess what? The Enlite sensor has just received CE (Conformité Européenne) Mark approval in France, and “is being launched subject to other local approvals in more than 35 countries outside the US,” so there’s finally some official information to share with…
