Over at DiabetesDaily, there’s been a series of discussions going on about How the Internet is Changing Diabetes Care — a topic about which I have many opinions (surprise, surprise). Why is it that some of life’s biggest “no-brainers” are often not obvious to the people they effect most? In this case I’m thinking of professionals in the healthcare industry, who talk about “patients” with a strange kind of distance, as if they themselves didn’t have health issues and need to see doctors sometimes — as if we folks with chronic illness were fundamentally of one single, stubborn mind. Per Friday’s post, last week I attended the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s big event on health design in Washington, DC. The day-long conference was a forum for nine design teams to showcase new technology-based health tools they’ve developed over the last two years under a special grant program called Project HealthDesign.
