As a person with type 1 diabetes who’s been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember, one of the things I often hear from other PWDs is that it takes twice as long to lose weight with diabetes as it does without. Although many people with diabetes tend to think just in terms of our own community, PWDs are actually part of a much larger community of folks with chronic illnesses; we are residents of the “Kingdom of the Sick,” a term coined by cancer patient and writer Susan Sontag. We review a good number of books here at the ‘Mine, but it’s not often that I’ve found myself reviewing a book with chapters written by so many people I’m lucky enough to know!
