This past Sunday through Tuesday, the legendary Joslin Diabetes Center hosted its first-ever “Diabetes + Innovation” conference at the Crystal City Hyatt hotel in Arlington, VA. (They tell us this DC location was more convenient for the many government and large healthcare orgs participating than Joslin’s home base in Boston.)

Kyle Rose is a former Team Type 1 cyclist and business development director for that group. He is now living in France, where he founded a consultancy called Delta PM Diabetes, focusing on chronic disease management in health care. Many of you have probably heard by now that J&J Animas was hit with a warning letter from FDA recently, and the accusations that they compromised patient safety by continuing to sell insulin pumps with known defects. This sounds pretty scary and negligent indeed. Why would a leading pump company do something so seemingly stupid? We called Animas spokesperson Caroline Pavis to get their side of the story.
