When exactly the Animas Vibe integrated insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) hits the U.S. market is now up to the FDA.
Almost two years after the Animas Vibe hit the market in Europe, this Monday Johnson & Johnson submitted the pump to the U.S. regulatory agency. The company publicly announced the submission during their first quarter earnings call early this morning.

Well, we all made through another year!
Surprised we got through this one? Especially with that purported Mayan prediction about the world ending on Dec. 21, 2012? Well, we’re still here! Predictions of doom were apparently exaggerated… Perhaps the premonitions were of something “magical” that was supposed to happen, so we were crossing our fingers for a cure being discovered or the FDA approving the best-ever fantasy diabetes device… or somesuch.

Today is a happy day for fans of Insulet’s tubeless insulin pump system! The FDA has finally approved the next-generation OmniPod, which is 34% smaller, 25% lighter, and 16% slimmer — yet still holds same 200 units of insulin.
