Every endo visit is an adventure, in my book. Last week when I went in, proudly displaying my latest A1c result of 6.2 (!), the whole session turned out to be about my fiber intake and (nonexistent) vitamin regime. Aaargh! Can’t a PWD rest on their laurels for just a day or two?

Why is it that some of life’s biggest “no-brainers” are often not obvious to the people they effect most? In this case I’m thinking of professionals in the healthcare industry, who talk about “patients” with a strange kind of distance, as if they themselves didn’t have health issues and need to see doctors sometimes — as if we folks with chronic illness were fundamentally of one single, stubborn mind. I’m normally not into selling or aggressively plugging specific products here, but I’m making an exception today for a couple of new Diabetes Emergency Supplies that could really help our community. Christopher Thomas, 28, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes just a year and a half ago. He lost his job, moved to New York City, and started partying hard. Too hard. His friends began calling him “the diabetic rockstar” (sing along here). You won’t believe what he’s done with that moniker since.
