So sorry for the bad pun. Couldn’t help myself. But this is serious stuff, actually. A small company out of Washington state is working hard to gather some much-needed data on severe hypoglycemia, and how we can better prepare for it and treat it.
Apparently there’s not a lot of great existing data on severe hypo cases — in particular on how it typically gets solved when it occurs. (Well, there’s a little)

A physician-friend of mine is raving about The Innovator’s Prescription by Clay Christensen and team. My friend tells me it’s the best book ever written on health care, and has even sent me a copy via Amazon.com as an early birthday present (thank you!)

Funny how issues can swirl right past you, until they become personal. Then suddenly you awake to find yourself at the center of the storm! What I’m getting at here is that a few weeks ago, my endo decided I should start taking a statin drug. And all of a sudden, all the hullaballoo over these widely-touted cholesterol-lowering pills hit home.

As you all know, President Obama lifted Bush’s longstanding restrictions on federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research yesterday — a huge breakthrough for all those who believe this avenue could produce unprecedented treatments for many incurable diseases. Like diabetes.
