These days, it seems like scholarships, internships and diabetes-focused jobs and careers are much more visible than they used to be for young adults living with diabetes.
A news story that caught our eye recently involved a Southern attorney and fellow type 1, Byron David, who’s stepping up to help the younger generations of PWDs (people with diabetes) further their education. With the fiscal year ending on Friday, it’s time to make any last minute tax-deductible donations. Fortunately, the diabetes community is not short on non-profit organizations dedicated to educating, assisting, and eventually curing people with diabetes. The most visible organizations are, of course, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association. But there are many others worthy of your philanthropic consideration. When I was down in Orlando for the Children with Diabetes conference, I bumped into a booth for something called the Diabetes Scholars Foundation, and chatted with its president Mary Podjasek, a wife and mother to two with type 1 diabetes.
