You all know about Diabetes Art Day today, right? It’s an ever-growing “web-based initiative for the Diabetes Online Community to ‘tell a story’ about life with diabetes though creative visual expression,” dreamed up and organized by one of our fave DOC’ers Lee Ann Thill.

Calling all artists and creative types, or anyone who might be inspired to make some diabetes-themed art… The third annual Diabetes Art Day is coming up this coming Monday, Sept. 24!

Our community is filled with brilliant diabetes advocates just itching to do good deeds, but awareness campaigns and educational projects take both time and money, right? That’s where the Diabetes Hands Foundation wants to step in and lend a hand . We are halfway through D-Blog Week, and today’s theme is “10 Things I Hate About Diabetes.” Pretty self-explanatory!
When I heard about this theme, I immediately flashed back to the classic teen comedy of a similar name, starring Julia Stiles and the late Heath Ledger. Who remembers that emotional climactic scene in which Julia reads her “hate poem” to Heath (which gives the movie its name)?

My buddy Manny Hernandez and his team at the non-profit Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF) — publishers of the social media health networks Tudiabetes.org and EsTuDiabetes.org — have scored again! In a very big way!
They’ve just announced being awarded a $150,000 grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, the same organization that is funding a new national registry for type 1 diabetes.
