As a person with type 1 diabetes who’s been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember, one of the things I often hear from other PWDs is that it takes twice as long to lose weight with diabetes as it does without. Growing up, I remember my mom going to Weight Watchers meetings regularly. I think she enjoyed the interaction, and she trimmed down pretty fast. Then she actually kept her figure — and her new healthier eating habits — for many years to come. For the month of January, I gave up eating all grains, dairy, artificial sweeteners, natural sweeteners (except fruit), and legumes. Did I discover that I have some kind of crazy gluten/lactose/stevia intolerance? Nope.
