Seems like every week we are hearing about new diabetes mobile apps coming out. But with so many to choose from now, how can we tell what’s really going to be helpful for us PWDs? I’m very fortunate — and geekishly thrilled! — to be the first U.S. diabetic to review the new iBGStar, glucose meter and logging app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Yup, it’s that meter that plugs right into an iPhone! And nope, it’s not FDA approved or available on the market in America yet.

This weekend, at Stanford Campus in Palo Alto, CA, I’m proud to say we hosted a historical gathering of different stakeholders around innovation in diabetes… The first-ever DiabetesMine Innovation Summit gathered in one room about 60 designers, web visionaries, Pharma Marketing and R&D folks, experts from venture capital investment, innovation and regulatory experts, and passionate patient advocates.

When we reported last summer about the Helmsley Charitable Trust developing an open national registry for type 1 diabetes, we were envisioning some kind of dry database, or perhaps a big listing of sorts like ClinicalTrials.gov. We sure as heck weren’t expecting the kind of social media “wow factor” that Helmsley has infused into its new site, MyGlu.org. Check it out:
