As a book lover who happens to be a person with diabetes, I am pretty much the kind of guy who can’t resist checking out any and every book about this illness.

We always love to discover people in the diabetes community who are doing (unusually) great things.
That’s why it was so exciting to learn about the work of fellow online D-Advocate Marie Smith, who blogs over at Joy Benchmarks. She was diagnosed with type 1 as an adult in July 2011, and just celebrated her first diaversary last summer!

When I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 19 years ago, the very first person I met was Stacey McGill of Stoneybrook, CT. If you are a woman diagnosed with diabetes between the late-80s and mid-90s, she was probably one of the first diabetics you met, too.
