The holidays are upon us! Which for us PWDs means spending time with friends, family and coworkers, who are generally well-intentioned but often try to “help us out” with what they know from Oprah, or something they heard from the friend of a friend’s cousin who knows about diabetes from what he read while standing in the grocery store aisle. Ugh!

When he was just a kid during the ’60s and ’70s, Evan Kramer saw both his older brother and sister diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. But he didn’t learn much about the chronic condition at the time, because his siblings didn’t talk about their diabetes and his parents seemed to shield him from knowing more.

We all face it at one time or another: diabetes burnout. For some of us, we can eke out enough motivation to get by, but others face a much longer, darker path.
