Snuggled up in my bed under the warm covers, all I want to do is keep my eyes closed.
But, no. My darn insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) just won’t shut up and let me sleep. Both vibrate and beep incessantly, reminding me that I’m low and nagging me to wake up and do something about it.
Neither device can actually intervene or do anything to prevent these lows (or highs) from happening.…

The Artificial Pancreas has the potential to become a huge leap forward in diabetes care. As anxious as all of us are to push the boundaries in diabetes technology, we can’t forget the importance of clinical trials; nothing will move forward without real patients ready and willing to strap on the gear and let researchers observe them for hours on end, most of the time in a clinical setting.

If you can still get excited about diabetes research headlines, then here’s some exciting news coming out of Cambridge, Mass, this week: Tolerx, a life sciences company, has reported they are in Phase 3 clinical trials for a new treatment of type 1 diabetes. If everything goes to plan, a representative of the company says, Tolerx could launch the first-ever offering approved by the FDA to treat the cause of type 1 diabetes. Pretty cool!…

With the big ADA conference underway this weekend, we’re being bombarded with headlines about diabetes clinical trials — first and foremost all the news about the conflicting results of the ADVANCE and ACCORD studies.
