In memory of those who have lost their battle with diabetes…

Speaking of World Diabetes Day, coming up November 14, I discovered this cool series of YouTube videos that the International Diabetes Federation has been pumping out to catch people’s attention. They’re short and evocative, all supporting the slogan “Understand Diabetes, Get Involved.”
For example, this bit on “how many people have diabetes worldwide?” Do you know the number? I didn’t offhand, either:

I can’t quite remember who asked me, but in front of San Francisco City Hall last Friday evening, during our World Diabetes Day celebrations, somebody pointed to my pin and asked, “Why the blue circle, anyway? What does that mean?”
They also wanted to know why the logo didn’t have the world “diabetes” stamped across it: “Who’s going to recognize that this stands for diabetes?!”
For goodness’ sake, it’s supposed to be like the ubiquitous…
