The “Ethical Imperative” of Diabetes Interoperability

The fact is, a handful of manufacturers currently have a stronghold on our diabetes data. Their systems collect this vital health data for us, but are designed to withhold it so that we rely on their products exclusively to access it, share it, or analyze it.
More and more patients are finding this intolerable, and are fed up with waiting for the Pharma industry to embrace long-overdue open standards.

Glooko’s D-Device Connectivity Workaround

But it’s doing so with what is essentially a clever workaround — the first and only plug-in cable between popular glucose meter models and the iPhone/iPod, which debuted in November 2011.

Looking Ahead: New iPhone 5 Impact on Diabetes Tools?

Rumors of the new iPhone 5 model are flying high. The release date could be as soon as next month, and it’s still unclear whether this next-gen phone will go from the iconic 30-pin port connector to a smaller 19-pin connector (or even more nano-sized) on its base. Everyone is worried that the new model won’t be compatible with older/existing Apple accessories.
