As many of you know, I’m currently studying to become a Certified Diabetes Educator. So I was delighted to have the opportunity to attend the American Diabetes Association’s annual Advanced Postgraduate Course in New York City on Feb. 23 — a two-and-a-half-day conference that can be viewed as the ‘little sister’ to the ADA’s huge Scientific Sessions held each summer.

Last week, a virtual who’s-who of about 500 researchers and scientists working on diabetes technologies gathered in Bethesda, MD, for the 12th annual meeting of the Diabetes Technology Society. More than 70 presenters gave talks, mostly introducing new research, over the course of three days.

Her name was Marjorie. She was a 29-year-old from East Africa’s Uganda. And after living with type 1 diabetes from the age of three, she died last year as a result of diabetes-related kidney disease.
