The annual meeting of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) starts today in Washington, DC. This event promises to bring together about 5,000 experts and educators for both an expo and a series of courses on the latest and greatest in D-care. This year’s theme is “Monumental Opportunities,” an obvious reference to the capital city venue, and also an allusion to just how BIG diabetes has become.

Saw my endocrinologist yesterday for the first time in at least 5 months. Our visits have suddenly taken on a new cadence since he’s learned about my D-writing and my excursions into the mysterious world of professional diabetes care. We arrived home yesterday afternoon. I was up most of last night making lemonade and PB&J sandwiches for the jet-lagged kiddies. And today I’ve got that post-trans-Atlantic-flight wrap-around headache that makes it hard to figure out what you were doing just now… just now… just … now.

A lot of people are starting to ask what diabetes books I’d personally recommend. Honestly, I haven’t read that many, but what I have read was invaluable. The very first thing I did after coming up for air was order a copy of “Diabetes for Dummies,” of course (!) — an essential for understanding what’s actually happening to your body.
