I love this column! What an insightful response to the question. As a parent of a child who had cancer, I can’t tell you how well you detailed the conflict that we face between our efforts to work, provide, and care for our kids. That is even tougher when your child faces a serious medical condition. In the end, no parent ever quite does the job the way they hoped they would when they first had kids. And many of us are critical of our parents for quite some time. And then…you turn a corner and realize that, like you, they were doing the best they could with the tools and resources they had. My parents weren’t perfect, far from it, but they loved and cared for me and I think they are wonderful. I hope my kids feel the same way about me.
