I totally agree with Ginger on why the Freestyle Lite is such a good little meter. It does the basics, you can add more blood if you don’t get enough the first time, and it has a light to light up the strip in the darkness. I have used Abbott meters for years, starting with the old Flash, and have also gotten consistent results with my physician’s meter. Plus, the strips are covered by my insurance at the lowest tier, so I have the smallest copay.

Great review, Ginger! Your points are all good – adding blood is one of those things I wish I could do, but cannot on my One Touch UltraSmart meter. And a lighted strip is also excellent, as I often have to test in low light. Personally, I love the graphing functions of the One Touch UltraSmart….but I wish it offered those two critical benefits of the Freestyle Lite!!

I love this meter too and have not seen any meter that is better. This one also works in the cold weather, which is valuable when you are skiing. It still works. The light is awesome, I agree. I’ve used this meter forever. I really hope it doesn’t die!

I’m new to diabetes, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I can say that it is incredibly easy to use and very convenient and reliable.

If you’re new to diabetes like me, this is a great product to ease yourself in.
