Their message does not make sense to me. He does not follow his own advice, as has been pointed out, and even if he did, I strongly disagree. Blood testing is not akin to using a toilet! I hid in restrooms for a short time after I was diagnosed, but I’d never think of testing or injecting in one now – well, maybe if I were wearing a dress that I’d have to hike up ridiculously to manage an injection… I test at the table and inject if I need to. I’ve tested and injected on an airplane when my pod failed. Tip: A window seat makes it easy to do so fairly discreetly. And if someone doesn’t want to see it they may avert their gaze. I’m pretty sure staring is on Miss Manners bad list too!

No one is likening anything to using the toilet. The above makes it clear that drawing blood is likened to “personal grooming”, like reapplying makeup, which you should do in private if you care at all about etiquette. Or do you now think they’re trying to shame hair brushing and nose blowing?

I have followed Miss Manners for decades. She has a writing style that i appreciate, so I understand her comments.

Some people are too quick to judge anything they don’t understand, like discretion, or consideration for their environment.

Those of us who know how to test discretely and how to explain things to children know when to be discrete and when to use their activities as a teaching moment.
