Being that I was nearsighted and astigmatic before my Diabetes DX, I always got my eyes examined and dilated every year. This is nothing new for me.

Both my father and my older brother are diabetics. My father didn’t do a good job of managing his sugar levels. He lost sight in both of his eyes, he suffered from kidney failure, before passing away at the age of 56 in 1999.
As for my older brother, he was headed down the same path. His eye sight was fading fast, and his kidneys were failing. He eventually found a match for a kidney, and had a kidney replacement. He has cleaned up his act, and has been doing well for several years now!

Excellent information! Part of our checklist for PWD is to make sure they’re having annual eye exams. As they say, ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’.
