    A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when telling or writing down what we’ve been eating is often met with disbelief. Not all patients lie, but too many healthcare personnel assume they are. Dialogue with PWD will be more effective if what they say is believed.

    Whenever something new that comes out and provided great benefit to our condition, it usually costs an arm and a leg. Hopefully a product like that will come down in price in the future.

      I hope so but you can never be sure. What will happen is that a newer product will pop up and that one will also cost an arm and a leg! So an arm and a leg it will stay :/

    Because diabetes treatment (Type 1, in my experience, but it may be true of Type 2) is a moving target, I revisited my “guesstimates” of how many carbs I was eating. The only thing I had a problem with was dry measurement–specifically cereal! 3/4 cup is NOT that much cereal.

    It also had my head scratching on a basmati brown rice I eat. Every time I measured out my rice precisely, I went low. I finally figured out that their guess as to how many carbs are in a quarter cup of their rice HAD to be wrong. I went back to my previous guess (15g per 1/3 cup) and everything worked out right.

    The only habit I really want to “fix” in my diet is variety. For instance, I eat apples a lot (1/2 an apple at a time), but it gets a little boring, so I’m going to revisit grapes and oranges and see if I can get a handle on them.

    I think revisiting this every year is a good way of making sure you’re on track. That’s how I deal with food. I had a very good dietitian teach me how to count carbs well. That’s the one skill I always “Fall BacK” on.
