If, in fact, this program works, I’ll bet it’s because of the repetition. My Type I diabetes is easiest to control when I eat the same thing at the same time each day. Consistency in diet has always been encouraged in the treatment of Type I diabetes, and disordered eating (which is also very common among Type I’s) becomes more “orderly” when one eats the same thing at the same time each day. The challenge, it would seem, would be to maintain the weight loss after achieving it.

        Juds,

I felt the same way. After looking on the Internet for years I never found a legitimate solution to obtaining a body I wanted and blood sugars that would ensure I lived a long healthy life without complications.

I can’t tell you how blessed I feel that I ended with the formula that seems to be perfect for me. Of course all our bodies are unique but I know that following basic principles that are laid out in this program will change the way your body looks and feels and allow you to get tight blood sugar control.

Please don’t give up. You can succeed. I’ll support you however I can.

        Sinead,

Ugh I can’t tell you how frustrated I was looking on the Internet for solutions. I also got so frustrated when I’d go to a medical professional and their answer to having healthy blood sugar readings was always “take more insulin!”

Not a solution if you are looking to stay trim and slim.

I’m sorry you are frustrated and struggling. Hang in there and let me know how I can support you.

My sole intention is for people with type 1 and 2 to know what principles to adhere to so they can lose weight, get excellent blood sugar control and live a happy healthy life with diabetes.

I have no doubt you can and will do it.

June, the 12 week program is a total jump start and repetitive and tightly controlled in order to allow people to get great results.

However what I can tell you from personal experience is that I found such great success during the 12 weeks, that I’ve adopted it as a life-style. 6 days a week I eat lean protein, veggies, and nuts and one day a week I allow myself to enjoy meals with carbs.

I have not gained any of the weight back. In fact I have lost even more. I feel and look better than I ever have. My blood sugars are incredible and I take about 16-18 units of novalog a day. I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks for your comments! Very valuable.

      Michelle,

One of my favorite things about the program was the repetition and tight control. I didn’t have to think about what I was going to eat or in what amounts.

It was laid out for me and made it so easy to stick to. I changed my mentality and started to see food as fuel.

Routine is so key especially in the beginning when you need to find the right formula that works for your body. If people change things everyday they really don’t have good data to go off.

12 weeks is the perfect time to find out how your body is responding and see results. From there I personally was so thrilled with how I felt and looked that I never went back to old ways of eating carbs and being diabulimic.

Let me know how I can support and help you!

      Tom,

Thanks for being honest about where you are at.

When I first started the program I was 175 pounds and I’m 6′ tall. I thought that there was no hope for me and I’d always just be in that body.

As a younger woman I was thin but my bad behaviors ended up taking a tole and after college I put on some weight. I was so scared that the 12 week program I created with my semi-pro body building friend and nutritionist wasn’t going to work.

In fact, I had dreams about it not working. But I promised myself to give it my all for 12 weeks. I was amazed at the transformation my body underwent and my blood sugars.

If you recall, in college my A1c was over 14! Yikes I know

I’ve continued to stay on track and now weight 147 pounds and feel great.

Seems the longer I stick to veggies, nuts, lean protein and 1 day a week where I cheat, the better I feel and look an the tighter control I have over my Blood sugars.

      Amy,

I loved the idea of repetition too when I started out.

Of course I was a bit fearful that I’d get bored and sick of it.

Turns out, I still haven’t. I have eaten the same breakfast every day for nearly a year and it’s wonderful each morning.

When I changed my mentality and started to view food as fuel, I recognized the importance of routine and being able to stick to something so I could see how my body responded and then make changes from there.

It’s such a great program and I hope you give it a try.

I’m here to support you, so let me know what I can do!

Thank you for your interest. You used the word “love” and that’s great to hear because I know you are serious and passionate about losing weight and having excellent blood sugar control.

It is possible, I promise because I came from a place of total frustration and “out of control” blood sugars.

I thought I was doomed to be in a body I hated with blood sugars all over the board.

I’m so grateful I’ve found a formula that works great for people with type 1 and type 1 (actually works great if you don’t have diabetes too) and feel blessed to be able to share my success and formula with others so they too can get a rocking body and great blood sugar control.

I’m here to help in whatever way I can.

          Jessica Johnson June 2, 2013 at 3:33 pm |

          Elise,

Thanks for reaching out! The foods on the program are lean protein (chicken, chicken sausage, fish, tuna, turkey burger), veggies (pretty much every veggie under the sun), nuts and a few grains (steel cut oats, brown rice, quiona).

However, in the program you get a list of allowed foods so, for example, if the meal called for 2 oz of salmon and you don’t like salmon you can swap it out for another “allowed” protein on the plan. So there is flexibility within the actual program.

the only time people don’t get the type of results I got is when they start to say “well instead of having brown rice I’m going to have whole grain toast (which is NOT on the program) because they have similar amounts of calories so I think it’s an “even” swap.

does that make sense? Essentially the allowed foods can be interchanged, but you can’t eat foods NOT on the program as every food selected was chosen with the help of an M.D., NMD and semi pro body builder b/c they impact the body, blood sugars and insulin sensitivity in a certain way.

Hope that helps and feel free to call me if you have more questions.

I hope you do the program, I continue to get incredible feedback from those who invest in it as they do successfully lose weight and get far better and tighter blood sugar control.

      Anna,

I’m glad you are intrigued. That is one of the reasons I actually started to try and find a formula that would work for me.

I was intrigued that those without diabetes could have slim and trim bodies and healthy blood sugar levels.

I knew if they could do it, I could do. It was simply a matter of finding what worked for my body and knowing that unlike those without diabetes I would simply have to supplement with insulin injections (or a pump in my case)

Let me know if I can help or support you in anyway.

Hi, Allison! Thanks for writing about Jessica’s product/program. I have been reading a bunch of blogs today and confirming – all over again – that everyone with diabetes is unique. There are so many different ways to eat with diabetes, and I tell the people I work with that it’s all about balance and “what works best for you” to achieve healthy BGs, healthy outcomes, and feel good. When people ask me, “what can I eat?” I always answer, “anything.” To me it’s just as important that we approach diabetes with a positive, healthy attitude, as putting healthy foods/beverages in our bodies. There are no secret tricks. Consistent foods at consistent times definitely helps, but that’s not reality for everyone. The one thread that weaves through all of it is our attitude. Thanks again!

The experts may say that technically it’s not harder for us to lose weight, but we know that when we say that, it’s taking into account all the extra hurdles diabetes presents us with. So yeah, it is harder I think. But it can be done :)

A type 1 friend of mine lost 60 lbs using symlin. After losing the first 20 lbs, he said to his (type 1) girlfriend, “dieting is fun”.

Anyways, I gain weight when I am not on a pump. I guess it is because I have to “stack insulin”, especially with long-acting insulin.

I would suggest using a CGMS and a pump when losing weight. Avoid lows at all costs and know when to cut back on insulin. Of course, dose conservatively.

Yes it will. Anyone who wants to lose weight, regardless if you have diabetes or not, needs to decrease the amount of insulin they need on a daily basis. Insulin causes inflammation, weight gain and in some cases can decrease insulin sensitivity further. The program will work for everyone so long as you stick to the eating and exercise plan. I’ve had type 2s and non diabetes try it and each person has had success. Of course how much weight is lost and how much better control you gain depends on where you are at now. Great question!

I tend not to agree with many of the text book experts, they can be wrong about so many things, firstly point 1. insulin does make you put on wait, I now many people who have experienced wait gain once transfered to insulin, this I am convinced of beyond any argument. The difficult point is once you have gained wait, you have to loose it, this is difficulty,In some cases this causes problems for people who are unable to exercise due to other diabetic related problems, I think loosing wait is always a tough cookie for many people, even for those who are none diabetic, byetta for me works well in getting excess wait off, I have lost over 5 inches from my waist and over two stone since taking it, I think in fair comment diabetes is a difficult condition to live with it can cause problems and great expense it is expensive to live with if you follow the book, serious adjustments have to made in life to manage the condition with success, these involve great will power to say the least, diets can be quite expensive as no doubt many people are aware of, it’s trying for sure.
