I’ve had a few pump failures… all on a Friday afternoon… so the turn-around w/ a replacement always exceeded the 24-hrs stated. That said, I survived! No big problem.

What better reading material would you recommend to the lady with the enviable 140 blood sugar?

Thanks for the great quote on the coffee cup. I have seen this before, and it is so true!

@Marge – With my Accu-Chek pump, I have a spare pump, designed to run for up to 180 days. This came in especially handy when I was sailing in the Caribbean and my pump failed – put a new cartridge and battery in the spare and kept going!

I’m the subject of the first post — the woman who rang up a 140 FBG, lost 120 pounds and was (and sometimes still am) badly frightened by some of the information on the web. It felt as if, no matter what I did, I was doomed, and I couldn’t see any way out, despite my major lifestyle changes. Wil, a wonderful man, wrote me a private post much longer than this version, that did a lot to calm me down and provide some perspective, and for that I’ll be forever grateful.

I wanted to write in to say I finally went to the doctor and got retested for FBG, did my first H1ac and had a full cholesterol screen. The results? An FBG of 95, an H1ac of 5.6, a cholesterol of 190 and a blood pressure of 118/70. While the doctor is saying I’m not diabetic and unlikely to become so if I stick to my routine, I suspect I’ve only been lucky enough to put in remission. I’ll do my best to keep it there for a good long time, but I’ll always assume I’m a undiagnosed diabetic keeping good control through diet and exercise.

My thanks to Wil and all those who counter the horror stories with hope. It makes more difference than you know.
