If there were some way you could get this segment back in the news and make Conan feel the heat, he would absolutely love it. Anything he can do to humiliate himself on air is comedic gold. If a Type 1 biking club in SoCal were to challenge him on his assumptions and/or challenge him to a bike ride (and instead of being a flat course it’s straight up for miles), he would agree to the challenge and be a good sport about addressing that diabetes isn’t caused by eating sugar.

This is RIGHT up Tour de Cure’s alley!

What can I say … I thought it was funny. And since this is Conan, I would expect nothing less than for him to take an incorrect statement/idea and turn it into something completely absurd, which is what he did.

I agree with Tim and Scott. Conan opens himself up to humiliation and embraces it with comedic grace. Anyone watching the show knows how wildly absurd his “facts” can be.

I’m with the rest of the commenters. Jokes are very often funny because they are untrue, or play on misconceptions. Just like a joke about celebrity gossip may not be funny to the celebrity, that doesn’t make it any less funny…or have any less of a right to be said. Diabetics may not find inaccurate jokes funny but that doesn’t mean that someone doesn’t have a right to say them…or others a right to hear them.

I doubt that most people are expecting to gain factual medical information from the conan o’brien show.
