This happens to be the third annual Diabetes Blessings Week, an initiative created by fellow advocate and D-Blogger Mike Durbin, so we wanted to share a couple of brief notes about what we’re thankful for this Turkey Day 2012.

I am thankful for good health. That may sound odd, but diabetes doesn’t hurt; I haven’t been in the hospital since the week I was diagnosed; and with proper effort, I’m able to exercise, travel, and enjoy most activities other “healthy” folks can.
Most of all, however, I am thankful for the good health of my loved ones: my three beautiful daughters, my husband-who-doubles-as-best-friend, my plucky mother, and my adorable mother-in-law and the rest of our clan in Germany.
We’ll be spending part of the weekend in Big Sur this year as usual, where the sweeping blue-green of the California coast can take your breath away. We won’t have internet access for a few days, which always makes me thankful for both a small break, and the fact that the internet has changed (saved?) my life with diabetes.
Lastly, I’m thankful for all of you — who’ve followed my work here at the ‘Mine these past years, and helped make the D-world a better place.

My wife and I are staying close to home and not traveling anywhere this holiday, so it’ll be nice to enjoy a quiet Thanksgiving feast by ourselves. I’m thankful to live in a time and place where I’m fortunate enough to have good access to insulin and medical supplies, while enjoying a Turkey Day feast.
I’m also thankful to have the support of my family and friends, and a great online community. As far as blessings, I know that I am blessed to have the privilege of spending my days on a job that involves sharing stories and information about the world of diabetes!
Thanks to everyone for being a part of our extended Diabetes Family!

Many thanks for participating in Diabetes Blessing Week!
