This past Sunday through Tuesday, the legendary Joslin Diabetes Center hosted its first-ever “Diabetes + Innovation” conference at the Crystal City Hyatt hotel in Arlington, VA. (They tell us this DC location was more convenient for the many government and large healthcare orgs participating than Joslin’s home base in Boston.)

I hate to be Debbie Downer here, but despite our community’s best efforts, it seems doubtful that Google will ever consent to run a diabetes-related Doodle on World Diabetes Day, Nov. 14.
WTF? You may ask… But diabetes affects millions of Americans! By some estimates, diabetes will hit HALF OF AMERICA by 2020 and is costing the country more than $174 billion per year!!
How could Google possibly ignore such a pressing and widespread topic?!…

In theory, diagnosing diabetes should be fairly simple. Have a fasting blood sugar over 127 mg/dL? Congratulations, you’re probably in the D-Club. Have a blood sugar reading over 200 mg/dL any time? Congratulations, you’re definitely a club member.

You all know about Diabetes Art Day today, right? It’s an ever-growing “web-based initiative for the Diabetes Online Community to ‘tell a story’ about life with diabetes though creative visual expression,” dreamed up and organized by one of our fave DOC’ers Lee Ann Thill.
