Calling all artists and creative types, or anyone who might be inspired to make some diabetes-themed art… The third annual Diabetes Art Day is coming up this coming Monday, Sept. 24!
Over 80 people participated in the inaugural online event in 2010, and that number more than doubled to 170 last year. So, at that rate and with the event falling a little later in the month (it was previously held on Sept. 1), this year’s participation should be through the roof — we hope!
Fellow type 1 and D-blogger Lee Ann Thill, founder and organizer of Diabetes Art Day, says that going forward, she plans to move the annual art sharing initiative to early February so it won’t coincide with people’s vacations, kids starting back to school, and the Labor Day holiday. The date will be Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 – less than five months away!
“My impression has been that (the distractions of summer were) adversely affecting participation, so last year I decided to move it to winter when there isn’t much on the DOC calendar,” she said. “By the time I decided to do this, it was too late to move it to winter in 2012, and I didn’t want to completely skip this year, so … I moved it to later in September. I also purposefully made it a Monday with the idea that people could more easily make art over the weekend to post Monday.”
We at the ‘Mine have had a blast participating in the past (here and here, most recently), and can’t wait to showcase some outstanding D-Art on Monday, while also sharing some of our own own homemade projects we’ve been working on! Oh, and don’t forget: After you create your art, head over here to upload an image of what you’ve made. It will be shared with the community via the new 2012 Gallery page.
