Wow, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) works fast! Following the Roche Social Media Summit, where their head of communications Isabella Platon presented, it took just a few days for them to connect with us D-bloggers and turn around a national postcard-writing campaign that could potentially pack a huge global punch:
The goal is to get President Barack Obama to show up and present at the upcoming UN Summit on global health issues (non-communicable diseases) on Sept. 19 in New York City.
People are needlessly dying and suffering from diabetes all over the world every day.
How else to get diabetes recognized as a top-agenda item?? If the President of the United States and leader of the free world says that improving diabetes care is urgent, then by God, it will be!
All you have to do is go to the Diabetes Outrage page, and fill out one of the pre-prepared postcards, or create your own. You just hit “submit,” and the IDF will take care of printing and mailing the cards.
The idea is a Harry Potter letter campaign, where the President’s office gets flooded with look-alike mailings all urging him to do the same thing. Bam-O!
Help us make diabetes a global priority.

Great idea. Thanks for posting the article.
I went to their site, and it wouldn’t work.
This is an awesome idea. Although I couldn’t get it to work, either. Will try again soon.
I couldn’t get it to work either – also we might want to reconsider the “Harry Potter letter campaign” comparison since that was a spectacularly unsuccessful effort resulting in very few actual letters sent… although if the site doesn’t work better than this perhaps the comparison is apt? LOL – I hope not.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I used Firefox & it worked. I had to save the PDF file @ email it myself.
Went to the site today (7/7) & had no problem. This is a great idea!
A lot of Diabetes is an epidemic because of overweight. I know, not all of it but a lot is self-induced.
Thousands of Type II could reverse their diabetes. Then there would be funds for those of us who can’t help it. I have had Juvenile Diabetes for 35 years and have problems in spite of trying to maintain tight control.
I would love to lose weight and get rid of it!
I had trouble with the PDF, too, but the online form works fine. Great campaign – thanks for highlighting!
I think it worked this time
