In a recent post about the possibility of cutting medical coverage for glucose test strips via Washington state’s Heath Technology Assessment program (HTA), we mistakenly implied that JDRF was not sufficiently involved in advocacy efforts to thwart this 
potentially disastrous decision.
In fact, the ‘Mine has learned that JDRF was quite involved, although there was no independent statement on JDRF letterhead included in the final report documenting public comments and responses.

“JDRF has been monitoring and participating in the technology assessment process for glucose monitoring by the Washington State Health Care Authority Technology Assessment Program since November 2008. We submitted research findings on both national and local levels that showed the benefits of continuous glucose monitor usage in managing type 1 diabetes. We co-authored a letter to the state agency in response to the draft report from the Health Care Authority, urging the state to provide coverage for frequent glucose monitoring in children. And we even identified patient advocates to speak at the March 18 meeting in Seattle, and had members of JDRF’s Washington chapter in attendance.”
