    very cool! I was a BME student at BU 92-96 and in our controls class, we did a simple closed loop insulin-glucose regulation system. I remember thinking, “Wow, this is nowhere close to taking into account all the variables!” At that point, we didn’t have CGM or fast-acting insulin…at least I was using a pump (with regular insulin). A closed-loop system was hard to fathom anytime soon.

    Nice job on the video!! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

    I was at this fabulous program on Saturday…learned so much! I had the good fortune of being the moderator. The question I wanted to ask Dr. Damiano, but didn’t: From what you’ve learned and observed from your studies, what pieces of advice do you have for people trying to manage type 1 today (until the bionic pancreas is available)? For example, you talked about using a pre-meal priming bolus – how do you translate that into action? Any learnings about foods – types, small meals, larger meals and dosing insulin? One injections site being better for consistent absorption than another? Any tips for exercise? How to make the best use of a CGM?

    I’d love to see this level of translation going on now. Thanks again and great to meet you in person!

    What an interesting interview – thanks Allison! And thank you Dr. Damiano!

    The part where he talked about the variability in insulin absorption blew me away. Up to 50% variability even in the same test subject!

    Sheds a lot of light on why managing blood sugars can be so hard sometimes, doesn’t it?
