Rwanda and Type-1 University Winners!

Diabetes Awareness Month comes to a close for another year today. I think we can all be proud that we did our very best to be heard. There were hundreds and thousands of blog posts, grassroots education campaigns, and local meet-ups.

We lit up the world!

We gave “Blue Fridays” a new meaning!

The Big Blue Test campaign was a huge-mongous success! (Congrats and we love you, Manny!)

On top of that, research progressed, as ever. I just read yesterday that scientists seem to have finally discovered the way in which the body controls BG levels following a meal; a mechanism called a M3-muscarinic receptor “undergoes a specific change… that triggers insulin release and the control of blood sugar levels.” That’s got to help move the needle towards better understanding and treating of this illness, no?

RWANDA TEAM TYPE 1 STRIP-A-THON INITIATIVE

Read here about how this competitive cycling team of type 1 diabetics has been working hard to collect life-saving diabetes supplies for children in Rwanda this month — all the while riding a grueling course of almost 750 miles across that country.

We asked readers to participate in the Strip-A-Thon, and then leave comments here as messages to the CWDs (children with diabetes) of Rwanda. Of those who participated, we picked two people at random using the online tool random.org.

TYPE-1 UNIVERSITY LOGO CONTEST
