“we are new a type of diabetic” — Love it!

My daughter consistently says she wants to be a performer when she grows up. It is always great to see stars with diabetes who we can look to for inspiration.

I’m a country fan, but I had no idea that George Canyon is diabetic. Awesome. :) He seems to be a really positive person and very much in touch with others. I like to see celebrities helping others with diabetes. Good for him.

Wow! Great interview. Thanks for sharing. I am in dialog with a number of friends who have diabetes. I am also a nurse. But it is really hearing from those I know who suffer with the disease that I have understood the impact it has on a persons life. Keep getting the word out there, this was an amazing interview. Thanks, Jana

I’m pretty sure he’s wrong about not being able to have a private pilot’s licence or be in the military. In Canada, you can be a commercial airline pilot with type 1 diabetes, so I’m not sure why you’d be barred from having a private licence or being in the military.

In Canada, we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which protects us from blanket discrimination. Of course, you need to have excellent BG numbers to keep your licence, but there is no all-out ban for type 1s. See the following article:
