If you can still get excited about diabetes research headlines, then here’s some exciting news coming out of Cambridge, Mass, this week: Tolerx, a life sciences company, has reported they are in Phase 3 clinical trials for a new treatment of type 1 diabetes. If everything goes to plan, a representative of the company says, Tolerx could launch the first-ever offering approved by the FDA to treat the cause of type 1 diabetes. Pretty cool!…

Robert Oringer is currently Co-Chairman and Board Director of AMG Medical Inc. in Canada, which distributes professional and home healthcare products. But he’s also the man who pioneered private-label diabetes products in the US, including syringes, glucose products, and testing supplies.

I’m sure many of you heard the news yesterday that Roche Diabetes has acquired Israel-based Medingo, makers of the much-anticipated Solo insulin patch pump — a would-be direct competitor to the OmniPod tubeless pumping system.
Roche paid $160 million for the small company and its technology, which is a drop in the bucket in industry terms. The press release predicts “worldwide availability by 2012.”
