I am not sure I want to be educated in the ADA way to treat or prevent diabetes. Much lower carb is working for me, thanks.

I can’t agree with you more on the need to alert people of their risks of having diabetes! As they say, “Better safe than sorry.” However we choose to turn a blind eye, thinking that we would be okay, we really cannot continue living the kind of wayward lifestyle most of us are prone to unless we want to get down with some serious illness like diabetes later on. Thanks for posting this.

I completely disagree with you…if we spend government money on pets (and I do love my dogs and cats), we can’t spend that money on people who really need it for test strips, insulin, pumps, etc. I hate to put animals down, but I can’t justify it if it would mean my own death. I can’t care for animals if I’m not here, and they will die anyway. I choose me first. Just my opinion.

The bill didn’t go far enough. I have three dogs, two of which have diabetes. I cant afford to treat them the way I would like. The Bill should have covered all pets too! I”m a doctor by the way. Just spend an hour in the emergency room and you’ll know what I mean.

Thanks for posting this, Amy! Your posts from the past inspired me to post my own earlier today. Anyhow, I agree that it’s great to focus on Type 2 and everyone needs to sound that warning bell as it relates to the growing trend. Also agree with Oftedahl that this legislation-now-law is insurance reform, rather than health care reform. But I disagree with Kliff’s remarks simply for the point that it’s aimed at Type 2 (even though it does likely apply generally to them). In my opinion, I don’t believe we Type 1s need a fundamental shift in patient care or education – though some support in mental health and support might be beneficial to overall health and also motivating longtime Type 1s to conquer frustration and maintain better control. WE needed this insurance reform, we need the dollars and regulations tweaked so that more reseearch can be done to benefit all D Types, both in management and in hope for a cure.
