#7 is my downfall also.

Although the meter probably has all of the information that I need on there, it always feels like too much information. Or too much of a "you're not doing well enough".

I'll look at the averages every few weeks to see how close I am to goals. Otherwise, it becomes like all the information on the Web; there's too much there and my brain is full.

Great list Amy! I myself have thought of my own top 10-one of which being the ability to laugh more about my life with diabetes. We know it isn't easy but, when I look at the news regarding Haiti right now for example, I think, "geez, I've got to be able to lighten up-my life is pretty darn good." At least most of the time, lol. Good luck on following through with these. Maybe you could post halfway through this year about how you are doing with these 10 ;)

Hi Amy,
This is my first time here. Really nice post here. I'll always come here to read and share if i can. For this 10 tips, maybe only half of it was practiced in my daily life. So thanks again

Hi Amy -- I love your list. I really really need to work on #4 myself, and you just reminded me to just take care of this already. I've been stuck without a meter (PANIC ATTACK!!), stuck without an extra infusion set (needles, anyone?), etc... and there's no need for that (especially from a former girl scout :-)!

Regarding number 1, for what seems like the longest time after I was diagnosed I couldn't figure out how to eat fruit either. That really bummed me out because fruit has always been one of my favorite things to eat. I'd get really weird looks at my "Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Classes" when the instructor would recommend that everyone eat 2-4 servings of fruit per day and I'd say, "HOW???" (without fail, everyone else in those classes had T2.) But, since then and with a little trial and error, I've figured out how to do it and it might work for other T1's, too. Instead of having fruit for a snack, if I eat fruit with a meal (that includes protein +/- fat), and bolus for it just like any other carbs, then it doesn't reek havoc on my BG. So, for example, for lunch, I almost always have an orange (or an apple or grapes...) and vanilla yoghurt, now. I used to eat a sandwich, but the bread would pretty much take up all the carbs I cared to eat. Eating fruit as a snack would make my sugar spike first and bottom out later (couldn't figure out how to time the bolus with the fast sugar rise). If I eat eggs for breakfast (my Saturday treat), I can sneak in some fruit then, too. Sorry if this is old hat -- just thought I'd mention it in case there are any newbies out there who were craving fruit and wondering the same thing I was wondering for the longest time...

Amy- great 10 things. I am lacking on number 7 too! I'm going to try to download my PDM once a week. We'll see if I can keep up with it.

Great ideas Amy usually I will take the things that I am weak at and focus on those. At his time of year they do tend to sound like resolutions and I for one don't like the idea but that's a story for another day. I think diabetes tend to mirror life, while you can be great at one thing, you still need to be proficient in the rest of the aspects to be successful in your diabetes management.
Those relationship's even the online kind do not hurt either.
