World Diabetes Day 2009 + An Intro for the Newly Diagnosed
It was a great day this Saturday. Many more people came out for the San Francisco World Diabetes Day event than last year. Probably because the Ferry Building is centrally located and a wonderful place to catch the attention of passers’-by.
See how pretty:

I’ve got more photos to share, but before I go on, an announcement: How many of you have run into someone newly diagnosed with diabetes? Don’t you wish you knew where to send them, to help them understand the basics? In honor of World Diabetes Day especially, Dr. Jackson and I have pushed out our Newly Diagnosed care plan on Keas.com.
It’s meant to walk folks through those looming first questions when you get
blindsided by this illness, like Why did I get it? What can I eat? and What’s going to happen to me now? The plan is still pretty basic and far from perfect; we do plan many enhancements, but we also hope it’s useful in its current form for some new members of the tribe. Check it out, free of charge, by signing up here.

So there I am with dLife co-host Jim Turner

And with Meri Shuhmacher
Meri is mom to four boys, three of whom have Type 1 diabetes. Hats off to you, Super Mom! Check out Meri’s WDD update at her blog, OurDiabeticLife.com.

Here are all the kids

We have many ideas how to make the San Francisco event even bigger and better next year. What about you? How did it go in your town?

You had quite the eventful day! This was my first WDD and I went to a luncheon on Friday where I got to meet some of my favorite bloggers. On Saturday, we lit our porch with blue lights, had a chili dinner with friends where I brought d-friendly foods to share, wore my WDD pin and had some wonderful dialogue with them about diabetes and how it’s changed our lives. We participated in the Big Blue Test and blogged about it all. I was diagnosed with Type II in July, so it was fun to be part of the celebration, rather than feeling like the one that can’t participate because of diabetes. It was a great day and I look forward to doing more next year.

Amazing and beautiful pictures. Love it.
