Yay. Once again Obama has come through for us diabetics and named SOTOMAYOR as a Supreme Court nominee. I've been telling all of you now for a while that Obama is going to cure us and this is confirmation. The only downside is that she went to Catholic school. Maybe she is over that Catholic nonsense. Obama is da man!!

I've been looking at this X Prize design for a week now, and there are major problems with it. The goal is to increase "health value" by 50% in three years. They don't define exactly what "health value" is, but it's some combination of health outcomes and costs. To win, you have to improve health and reduce costs.

The problem is that health care costs have very little to do with people's actual health. So lowering costs and improving health are two very different issues, only slightly related. We know that the social environment causes most illness, and health care can't do much about that. We need social approaches that affect the economic, political , and environmental causes of illness: stress, bad food, inactivity, inequality, and isolation.
