Now this is interesting: I just learned that a new campaign has been launched today called “Cure CVS” — critiquing the nation’s largest retail pharmacy chain for these offenses:
- “CVS has repeatedly kept expired drugs on its shelves,
- failed to protect sensitive patient data,
- overcharged customers in a number of cities,
- and stands by corporate policy that puts patient health at risk, which is simply unacceptable.
- Numerous racial and income-based issues are also part of our critique of the retailer.”
This initiative is part of the sweeping Change to Win campaign that was launched in conjunction today: “seven unions and six million workers united … to build a new movement of working people equipped to meet the challenges of the global economy and restore the American Dream in the 21st century.” Now that’s ambitious.
Looks like one of their first big moves is to put the heat on CVS, a huge player in the retail pharmacy industry. “With more than 6,800 stores nationwide, and managing a billion prescriptions a year, what CVS does has a deep impact on the industry and consumers across the country,” their spokesman notes.
They’ve even compiled a white paper called “Cure CVS: From Low Quality to High Prices, CVS Is Failing Our Communities,” which you can download HERE.
Wow! I don’t personally use CVS, because we happen to be flooded with Walgreens and Rite-Aid drugstores in the San Francisco Bay Area, so I can’t really weigh in here. But I’m wondering what you all think? Anyone had bad experiences with CVS?!
