Thanks for the plug, you the woman! Noone posted that they were going yet. Maybe its too early. Im not sure I can make it because I got a new job and i doubt i will be able to take off now.

But if people want to meet up on the lawn and use my post to see who is going that is cool with me!

Does anyone disagree that people with Type 1 diabetes and children with Type 1 are part of this campaign? If this campaign is *mostly* to raise awareness about the Type 2 epidemic and how it can be prevented, does it not do Type 1′s a diservice by lumping them in with Type 2′s? God only knows how many mothers of children with Type 1 get blamed every day for “causing their child to get diabetes”.

Is this campaign harmful to those with Type 1 diabetes? The 2 diseases have little in common aside from complications. And even the pathology of complications in T1 vs. T2 may be different.

LL, you are spot-on. The ADA says that nearly 6.2 million Americans are currently walking around with diabetes unaware that they even have the disease. That’s about one-third of the 21 million affected — or 7% of the population of this country, and growing.

I believe the ADA has stated that there are 6.2 million Americans that have diabetes (type 2) and are unaware.
I would have thought that having a Diabtes Screening at local pharmacies and the such would be a great idea for the month of November.
Nothing raises “awareness” more than a diagnosis!!!

Thanks for mentioning the Email Ellen campaign.

I took upon myself to email her one day because I want to get the word out about diabetes and World Diabetes Day.

I picked her because she was such an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October. I thought I’d give it a shot and see if she’d mention diabetes on her show during National Diabetes Month.
