Report Card Time, and Diabetes Video Stuff

School is out today, and my kids have aced the 2nd and 4th grades. The little one is ready as she’ll ever be for kindergarten this Fall (wow, my baby!) And the pride and start-of-summer euphoria extends to myself as well today. I went to see my endo a few days ago, and here’s my report card:

A1c – 5.9 (!!) That’s literally as low as I’ve been since immediate post-diagnosis — and that was backReportcard_2 when I was having unpleasant lows very regularly. Nowadays I’ve hardly been under 60 for weeks (months? I lost track), so this number means nice, steady, not-too-high glucose levels. Hooray for insulin pumping!

Blood pressure – 102/62 Move over, Health Ranger.

Glycomark – 6.6 (a test of postprandial BG levels; “normal” range for my lab is indicated as 6.8 to 29). So I’m not perfectly in the non-diabetic zone yet, but pretty darn close.

Thyroid tests – in range. OK, I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t document all the numbers on these, despite my championing the whole Know Your Numbers campaign. Heck, I’m scrambling to get ready for our family trip to Europe next week, so things like purchasing fun-size Playdough packs and capless markers have risen to the top of my priority list for the moment :)

Anyway, my doc found no evidence whatsoever of complications of any kind. Being only four years into this, I didn’t really expect any bad news, but I felt like celebrating just the same.

Videosymbol In other news, here’s some diabetes video stuff you can check out while pretending to work this Friday:

* D-blogger Scott Hanselmann’s day of twittering his diabetes was picked up on the local NBC affliate station! Very cool story. Watch him go, HERE.

* A new company called VideoJug, which produces instructional videos on “just about everything,” has posted a good set of informative feeds on diabetes, hosted by Dr. Anne Peters of USC. Check out the new series HERE.

Oh yeah, and …

Stay sweet, and have a bitchin’ summer!

Wow. Those numbers really make me jealous. I find out my numbers in about an hour, and I can just hope that mine are even close to yours.
