It educates you with its information so that adjustments in medication and diet are possible and you can see if you are getting the proper response from your medication and insulin coverage for over shoots and carb counting. Recycling of the sensors is also possible so that the unreimbursed cost becomes bearable. When the message says "sensor end," just go to "sensor," "start," and click on "new sensor;" this will allow 2-3 3-day cycles of the single sensor. This gives 6-10 days per $35 sensor. My son was on that version. It is so much better now with the smaller transmitter and it no longer tethers to the sensor. The small transmitter clicks right into the sensor. I also want to go to that triathlon training camp but unfortunately one is the week before my race and the other is the same weekend. By the way, I checked out the Symlin site and at the end of each segment (depending on which goals you chose) it gives you a link that gets you straight to the Symlin page. So, not surprisingly, it seems like the main reason for the site is to get more people to use Symlin. From my experience, Symlin was useful but definitely has not made a huge impact on my diabetes. I think their own studies showed a very modest (at the most) impact on lowering A1c and weight. For some, though, I realize it has been very helpful. Thanks for the links, Amy.
