In Memoriam, Here Too

Some very sad news today, I’m afraid.  David Mendosa, fellow diabetes journalist who’s been a fixture on the Web for over 10 years now, lost his beautiful wife Catherine Lee Nord on Tuesday.  She was 69.  She died of complications of diabetes.  I have to admit, my heart nearly stopped when I heard this.

Catherine How can it be that in this era of better diabetes treatment than ever, we are still losing such vibrant — and relatively young — people to this disease?

Take a moment to read David’s tribute to his wife at

For those who’d like to reach out, the family has asked for contributions in honor of Catherine Lee Nord to the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

You can use their email form, or call (617) 732-2400  Or mail a check to:

Joslin Diabetes Center
One Joslin Place
Boston, MA 02215

Also, maybe send a note to David on his blog to let him know that our thoughts are with him.

Dear David,

I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a partner.  I can’t stop thinking about Catherine, even though I never met her.  May her memory be honored well, and may some joy return to your life with the passing of time.

Although it’s a shame to loose a Love one, but unfortunately over some almost 100 die from Diabetes every day..

Is their a memorial to doante money for a Cure in her Name?

Has the Family set up a Trust Fund or Foundation?

And if she had just one of the Complications my Mother and Wife had during her last few yrs? As it is said, it was a blessing…non one ( except some horrible people) should have to die like that..
