Dr. J Does dLife & Carnival for a Cure
A lot going on this coming Sunday (March 11), so set your Tivo and mark your calendar and all that!
First, my kind and highly knowledgeable co-author Dr. Richard Jackson will appear on dLife TV this week. That’s on CNBC Sunday 7pm Eastern / 4pm Pacific. Dr. Jackson is Medical Director of Joslin’s highly successful DO IT (Diabetes Outpatient Intensive Treatment) program — an intensive 3-1/2 day seminar program that combines teaching and training with actual on-site exercise and meal sessions. There’s nothing quite like it.
On dLife, he’s set to discuss “the past, present, and future of type 2 diabetes treatment,” including hot new drugs Byetta and Januvia.
I asked him about the experience of being taped for dLife, but all I could get out of him was that the whole thing went very quickly (about 15 minutes) and that Nicole Johnson Baker is “extremely polished and an excellent anchor-person” — which we knew already. Anyway, don’t forget to watch! I don’t think our book is mentioned specifically… but Dr. J really knows his stuff and he’s very reassuring.
Meanwhile, the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) has its own party planned for Sunday — it’s 2nd annual Carnival for a Cure on March 11 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. This is a DRI fund-raiser so it’s relatively pricey ($350 for a family of four), but it does sound like a blast:
“This year’s Carnival for a Cure will be twice as large as last year, featuring activities and games for tots and teens including face painters, balloon sculptors, carnival games, virtual sports, a bungee run, racetrack, a “bling factory” where kids can decorate cell phones, iPods, dog tags and yo-yos, and make jewelry.
“There will also be spectacular live entertainment by magicians, jugglers, and stilt walkers. Attendees can win prizes, and all can enjoy gourmet food from Dean & DeLuca, one of New York’s most renowned caterers.”
Hot new teen pop band The Jonas Brothers will perform live, and have some surprising announcements to make (I’m buttoned up till they go public).
May your weekend ROCK.

Thanks for the tip Amy. I LOVE dlife for so many reasons. MY TiVO is ready to go!
Posted by: George | March 9th, 2007 at 9:56 amOooh! The Jonas Brothers! I love ‘Year 3000′!
Can you tell I have kids at home and spend my time watching some combination of Disney Channel, Nickelodeon & Cartoon Network?
In the car? Radio Disney. Sometimes even without the kids… Shhhh!
Posted by: Scott K. Johnson | March 9th, 2007 at 11:10 amI can’t say I love “Year 3000″ but I sure know every word!
Looking forward to hearing what the good doc has to say. I will admit, though, that when I saw the title I thought perhaps I had an ally in the battle of basketball legends
Posted by: Kassie | March 10th, 2007 at 10:14 amThanks for posting the information about the Diabetes Research Institute’s Carnival for a Cure. However, please note this has nothing to do with the JDRF. All proceeds are to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute. Thanks
