Scott, I am still proudly working with BD and while they have gotten out of the highly competitive BGM market they still continue to serve the diabetes community by making the best needles and lancets, products that I have used since the day I was diagnosed. Also, the BD Diabetes Makeover program has already helped a lot of people and I will continue to work on that project. Thank you Amy for the very kind article. I have enjoyed reading your posts. Scott, I am still proudly working with BD and while they have gotten out of the highly competitive BGM market they still continue to serve the diabetes community by making the best needles and lancets, products that I have used since the day I was diagnosed. I met Gary in June 2006 also at the ADA in Washington, and I did not find him nearly as self-absorbed as I expected, although he was REALLY tall, making it more logical why he can swim as fast as he does. However, you mention the BD sponsorship, but I wonder if he's still doing it considering BD's September 2006 announcement that they were exiting the meter and test strip market? I guess it still applies to syringes and pen needles, but I cannot help but wonder if the company spends nearly as much promoting those, or if they need Gary as a spokesman for a market in which BD clearly dominates? I can only speculate on the terms of his contract, but its understandable why he's recently cut a deal with Perio Inc. (Barbasol's manufacturer)!
