Happy Halloween

Some people have been asking why I don’t post more about dietary and weight loss issues.  Um, ’cause that ain’t really my bailiwick.  But on National Sugar Day, I offer you this “beefy” greeting:

(Lean) beef is good food.  Makes great decor, too.  (Hat Tip)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Genetics and Health

How much do you know about the subject?  Not alot?  Me neither.  But that didn’t stop Science and Health Channel editor Hsien-Hsien Lei from interviewing me on the topic.  She wouldn’t take no for an answer.  See the interview HERE.

Finger Lickin’ Good

Let’s see a show of hands here: How many of you lick your finger to get the blood off after glucose testing?

Well, of course you do. Otherwise the digit keeps bleeding and you end up with spots all over your shirt/steering wheel/wallet, right?  It’s perfectly natural.  Even non-diabetics do it after they get a little nick, don’t they?

Flu Shot Smarts

If you are over 65, have diabetes, lung disease, or heart disease you should get one.  Also, if you’re pregnant, a healthcare worker, are aged 6 months to 4 years or if you’re around high-risk people a lot you should get one. Or if you just don’t want to miss work and feel bad, it still may be a good idea to get one.

Pssst — Diabetes Cures for Cheap! (Gotcha!!)

Looking for an “all-natural” diabetes cure-all?  Then click here for Glucobate.

GOTCHA!

Glucobate’s a phony ad for a phony product created by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to alert consumers to the dangers of diabetes treatment scams on the Internet.

Holy @#$! Amazing Stories, Vol. 8: Holy Insensitivity!

I usually like to tell the cheerful stories.  But the fact is, sometimes bad things happen to people because they have diabetes (or other chronic diseases; see yesterday’s Forbes article Your Job or Your Life).  So while I’m on a roll here addressing the downer side of life, allow me to share one reader’s not-so-happy story (originally submitted as a counterpoint to the Diabetic Partner Follies):

Remote Control Diabetes? Not

Maybe I’m just too cynical (surprise, surprise), but I’m having a hard time swallowing the buzz about all the new wireless monitoring devices for diabetes. And I’m NOT talking about continuous glucose monitors (CGMS) this time, but rather the rash of new products that will transmit your blood glucose results to your doctor, nurse or educator via wireless computer technology.
